Common Questions and Answers
Can you get in shape by stretching?
You can improve your flexibility and range of motion through stretching, but it will not necessarily lead to increased muscle mass or cardiovascular endurance. For that, you'll need to focus on other types of exercise.
How often should I stretch?
Most experts recommend stretching at least three times per week. However, the frequency and duration of your stretching sessions will depend on your goals. For example, if you want to improve your flexibility for an upcoming race, you may need to stretch more often.
Is it better to stretch before or after a workout?
Stretching after a workout is generally recommended when your muscles are already warm. However, some prefer stretching before their activities to help loosen up their muscles. Before exercise, you should utilize dynamic stretches and controlled movements taking your joints and muscles through their full range of motion. In contrast, static stretching is better post-workout when your muscles are warm and pliable.
What are the best stretches for flexibility?
Many different stretches can improve your flexibility. Most common include hamstring stretches, calf stretches, and hip flexor stretches. Again, tailoring your stretching routine to your individual needs and goals is essential.
Is assisted stretching more beneficial than trying alone?
Stretching alone can be challenging to maintain consistency and adequately execute the stretch. We recommend you work with a flexibility coach to maximize your results! Assisted stretching is better because your partner can take you through more range of motion by applying pressure when needed and help hold the stretch for an extended period.
Can I lose weight from stretching?
It is highly unlikely that you will lose weight from stretching. However, if you combine regular stretching routines with a good dieting plan from a nutrition coach, you could lose weight without lifting weights and doing cardio!
